MLA North East

Friday 17 October, 2008

MLA North East is the strategic development body for museums, libraries and archives in North East England. This project is one strand of a programme of work titled Broadening Horizons which provides strategic development support for small and medium-sized local and community museums in the North East.

Over the past two years Broadening Horizons has focused on marketing training and skills development and included museums participating in visitor surveys.

MLA North East now wants to embed this learning and increase museums’ confidence in collecting audience data so that they can use this evidence to make planning and programming decisions to improve services for their users.

ANE has been commissioned to develop and deliver a programme of training and consultancy to a range of museums including voluntary organisations. The aims of the project are to:

  • Encourage a planned and evidence-based approach to audience development
  • Enable museums to use audience data to inform planning
  • Support museums to maintain/increase visitor numbers and to develop a broader range of visitors
  • Ensure activity is linked to Hub/Renaissance approaches to data collection
