Free Theatre for Young People

Friday 17 October, 2008

A two-year pilot programme offering free theatre tickets to under-26-year-olds has been announced by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

The Free Theatre Initiative will offer free tickets for arts events to under-26-year-olds at least one day a week in up to 95 theatres throughout England. It will be launched in February 2009, and is part of a strategic approach by government departments to give increased cultural opportunities to young people.

The Free Theatre Initiative is being funded by £2.5 million of additional funding to the Arts Council’s core grant.

Theatres wishing to apply for the initiative can download the guidance notes and application form here.

The closing date for applications is Friday 14 November 2008.
