ANE members collect tourism 'Oscars'

Thursday 23 October, 2008

Tourist attractions throughout the region were honoured on 21 October at the North East England Tourism Awards, and three ANE members collected well-deserved gongs.

John Wilkinson collected an individual award for outstanding customer service in his role at Chester’s Roman Fort on Hadrian’s Wall.

Killhope Lead Mining Museum deservedly won the prize for small visitor attraction, and the Centre for Life was recognised as best large visitor attraction.

With a tourism industry worth £3.9bn to the local economy, the cultural sector has a pivotal role in the marketability of the North East as a destination for holiday makers.

Audiences already living in the North East are also more aware of the plethora of culture on their doorstep, and as expectations and aspirations rise, ANE will continue to work with cultural organisations of all shapes and sizes to retain, increase and develop home-grown and tourist audiences.
