New training for Tourism workers

Friday 13 August, 2010

Tourism is hugely important to NewcastleGateshead, Sunderland, South Shields, Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. Over 40 million visitors come here every year, they spend almost £2 billion and keep over 30,000 people employed in full time jobs.

We all have a part to play to make sure these visitors have a great time, spend lots of money and come back. Working together, we can grow tourism; attract more visitors and more success for the whole area and everyone in it.

Welcome to Tyne and Wear is the new destination awareness and customer service workshop for all front-line tourism and hospitality employees in Tyne and Wear. The training comprises a three hour workshop with DVD and participants guide, and a two hour walking tour of the city centre with a Blue Badge Guide. It’s fully funded and refreshments (with light lunch) are provided.

The training looks at;

Our visitors, who they are, where they come from, the size and significance of tourism to the region and how important everyone is that works in it.

Our history and heritage, the story of Tyne and Wear, 2,000 years from the Romans to the industrial revolution (the short version!).

Our destination today, what attracts people here, what have we got. (Attractions, museums, sports teams, festivals and events, venues, food and drink, business tourism, the coast and countryside, accommodation etc.)

Our impact on the visitor experience, from when they arrive to when they leave. How we all have a massive impact on their whole experience, not just in our individual businesses, and can encourage them to come back.

It’s aimed at everyone working front line who comes into contact with visitors.

Attendees get a certificate and a specially commissioned ‘Welcome - Angel of the North’ pin badge.

FREE to attend – sign up today!
