Renaissance underway for Museums

Friday 27 January, 2012

Arts Council England has announced the 16 Renaissance Major partner museums which together will receive around £20million a year for the next 3 years as part of its Renaissance programme for regional museums.  There’s a rather handy map too.  Coverage from The Guardian here and Culture24ACE has also released further details of the Museum Development fund. A further £4million in grants has been awarded to 36 Museums and Galleries through the DCMS and Wolfson Foundation.  The second round of this grant scheme will be held in 2013-14.

The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle was successful in its bid in conjunction with Beamish Museum. Their successful application, which could be worth up to £2m over the next three years, will help secure the future of the two award winning museums, enabling them to consolidate their position as major players in their field.
