What's On website aims to win over new Audiences

Tuesday 9 May, 2006

New website whatsonnortheast.com is launched on May 16 2006 by the regional audience development agency Audiences North East. Core funded by the Arts Council, the agency is specifically committed to increasing awareness of what’s going on across the cultural sector in the North East and to persuading more of our local residents to participate and benefit from the huge range of cultural and entertainment facilities the region has to offer.

The site is designed to be an interactive shop window for news and information about the best of what’s going on in the cultural sector. The site will feature bloggers posting their opinions on a range of events and performances, exclusive ticket offers and promotions plus the chance to sign up for e mail bulletins to get the best inside information e mailed direct. Visitors will also be able to buy tickets online as a one stop shop for ticket sales to all of our best venues.

Elaine Wilson Chief Executive of Audiences North East said:

“Our benchmarking survey showed that 50% of people in the North East felt that they didn’t know as much about what was going on as they’d like. We want the website to address this and to be a real community platform for local people to have more of a voice about what’s going on in the cultural sector and to take up the opportunities that are available to them.”

Mark Dobson Chief Executive and Chair of the board added:

“We think the site will be very popular as we’re going to be making it easier than ever before for everyone in the region to find out in depth what’s happening in the cultural sector at the click of a mouse. “
